The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has said that the All Progressives Congress cannot wrestle power from the state Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike in 2019.
A leader of the PDP in the state, Glory Emeh, said the APC would be daydreaming to believe that it would turn the table against the ruling party in the state.
Emeh stated this just as the APC warned that it would shock the PDP during the election, adding that since it defeated former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, nothing was impossible.
Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Saturday, Emeh argued that the APC was lacking in direction and leadership and as such did not possess the strength to dislodge the PDP.
Emeh said, “Currently, there is no direction, there is no leadership and there is a lot of inconsistencies in what they (APC) do and what they say. Any APC person in the state who thinks that he can wrestle power from Wike is daydreaming.
“A politician who prepares for himself and for his opponents cannot be beaten. You cannot beat him. At what point would the APC solve its internal disagreement and begin to think of election?”
On restructuring, he stated that the nation already had restructuring in place but failed to practise it, adding that states in the federation should be able to live within their means.
He further said the Supreme Court verdict on the PDP leadership had cleared any stumbling block for the party’s aim at reclaiming power at the centre in 2019.
He added that the non-performance of the APC-led government had made it easier for the PDP to reclaim the power it lost in 2015.
Reacting, the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Chris Finebone, said Emeh’s boast was expected, adding that he would among those who would be shocked when APC defeats his party in the next governorship election.
“Many of Emeh’s type in 2015 said that former President (Goodluck) Jonathan would not be defeated because no incumbent leader had been voted out of office before. But they were shattered when Jonathan was sent packing. ” Finebone said.
He also faulted the claim that there was disagreement in the state APC, adding. Rivers APC is as intact as ever under the leadership of the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. ”
